Still not all a-Twitter
Comments
Neil, I think your view on social media, including Twitter, is too narrow. These tools are about the formation of communities. And a growing group are patient-driven communities (e.g. patientslikeme.com or trusera.com/health). So more and more people with rare disorders and/or very severe diseases will be linking up with other people who suffer with the same disease and sharing stories, recent information found, and results from trials. Why? Because more and more consumers are taking control of their own healthcare, and proactively deciding who they will share information (e.g. specialists, and even researchers working on new therapies and drugs). And Twitter is a great way to share data within the community in real time. So I expect we've only seen the beginning of how consumers will use social media tools like Twitter and Facebook to form powerful communities that will drive the healthcare revolution.
