UCLA names director of Wireless Health Institute
The year-old UCLA Wireless Health Institute has named biotech veteran Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong as its executive director. The Los Angeles school describes the institute as a community of UCLA "experts and innovators" from multiple disciplines that seek to improve the timeliness and extend the reach of health programs via wireless technologies. Soon-Shiong, founder and chairman of biotech firm Abraxis BioScience, and a former UCLA surgeon, also has accepted a faculty position as a visiting professor of bioengineering and of microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics, the university says.
