SPOTLIGHT: GE invests in home-health technology research

GE Healthcare is giving $3 million to an Irish research institution to help develop new technologies to facilitate independent living in aging populations. In the wake of GE's acquisition of Living Independent Group, which markets an activity monitoring system for eldercare, the company has decided to partner with the Technology Research for Independent Living (TRIL) Centre in Dublin, an organization founded in 2007 by Intel and Ireland's Industrial Development Agency. "The world is getting older and this is presenting enormous healthcare challenges in the care of elderly citizens and the prevention and management of chronic disease. We are looking forward to working with TRIL to drive innovation in this emerging area and ultimately transforming the lives of elderly citizens," Agnes Berzsenyi, General Manager of GE Home Health, says in a statement. The company is involved in a similar, $5 million project in Hungary. Press release
