Another look at portable PHRs

Despite low adoption rates and some serious growing pains with personal health records, at least one blogger believes the potential of platforms like Dossia, Google Health and Microsoft's HealthVault outweighs the negatives. The real benefit, argues Mark Scrimshire, will come not when records are populated with "garbage data," often derived from billing claims, but when they are connected to EMRs, health information exchanges and "smart," home-based and mobile medical devices. Only when patients have a secure, portable means of accessing their own health information will care truly become patient-centered, Scrimshire says. Blog post
