Picking mobile hardware is no easy chore

With the advancement of technology, there have never been more choices for mobile computing, from the humble laptop computer to pricey tablet PCs to sleek, new smartphones. Even COWs--computers on wheels--that have been so popular in hospitals come in many configurations.

Healthcare, of course, presents its own special challenges that may complicate hardware selection. Infection control clearly is a major factor in clinical environments, but so are battery life, network compatibility and, of course, user preference. A consumer electronics store may offer great deals on computers, but will the manufacturer support the product over the long term?
