New mobile site for North Shore-LIJ isn't watered down
The news that a health system has optimized its website for mobile use normally wouldn't merit a feature story in FierceMobileHealthcare, but North Shore-LIJ Health System in Great Neck, N.Y., gives us some great tidbits about its new site, which went live last week. For one thing, North Shore-LIJ cites a Nielsen Mobile statistic that there were 59 million mobile web users in the U.S. as of April. Half a year later, that number no doubt has grown.
"Smartphone access to the web has not always been the best user experience," notes Venkatesh Korla, president of Element115.net, which designed the mobile platform for the Long Island-based, 14-hospital system. has "If a site is designed for the mobile device visitor, the content is more focused and much easier to navigate."
The new mobile site, optimized for the iPhone and BlackBerry operating systems, isn't a watered-down version of the regular portal, according to the health system. It's a full-featured site in itself, containing directions and maps of North Shore-LIJ facilities, as well as contact information for the thousands of affiliated physicians.
