Medscape iPhone app will include CME

It was probably inevitable, but WebMD is preparing to introduce an iPhone application for Medscape, the company's network for healthcare professionals. Medical Marketing & Media reports that the app will include a free drug reference tool and drug interaction checker, specialty-specific medical news and mobile access to continuing medical education.

Medscape already is playing catch-up to Epocrates and others with the drug reference and to XM Satellite Radio station ReachMD, which launched a CME app for the iPhone last November. Expect the Medscape app to be available in late May or early June.

"We are focused right now on putting quality applications onto mobile devices, and as we build a mobile user community, commercial opportunities will follow," said a WebMD spokesperson.
