Maker of personal emergency medical communicator sues competitor

Home-health product manufacturer LogicMark, of Fairfax Station, Va., has sued its Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based competitor Medical Alarm Concepts, maker of the MediPendant personal medical alarm, alleging patent infringement and other unfair trade practices.

The lawsuit, filed Nov. 24, 2009 in U.S. Federal Court for the Eastern District of Virginia--and recently publicized--takes issue with Medical Alarm Concepts' claim that it had the only medical pendant with two-way voice communications, according to the UK-based Telecare Aware blog.

Medical Alarm Concepts denies the allegations and says it will "vigorously defend against the LogicMark claims" to successfully resolve the lawsuit, according to its recent SEC filing. Nonetheless, the company now identifies itself as the only "monitored" medical alert system.

LogicMark makes the personal medical response systems Guardian Alert 911 and Freedom Alert.
