Continua Health Alliance certifies Bluetooth BP cuff, weight scale

If you don't already know the Continua Health Alliance, get to know it soon. This nonprofit coalition of health technology and IT firms has adopted standards for connectivity in "personal connected health" and certifies products for compliance with those standards.

Within the last week, the Beaverton, OR-based alliance has given its blessing to three devices: a blood-pressure cuff and weight scale from A&D Medical, and a glucose meter reader from Roche Diagnostics. Both A&D products are Bluetooth wireless devices, while the Roche reader has a USB connection.

Continua says each are the first of their kind to earn Continua interoperability certification. They join two Nonin Medical pulse oximeters on the early list of Continua-certified home health and personal monitoring products.
